Here, Love

Here, Love, 2025. Installed at the Piano Craft Gallery, Boston, MA

Here, Love is an installation that brings together my grandmother’s hand-stitched quilt, likely sewn c. 1915, a reproduction I made of the quilt using vintage-pattern textiles, a jacket I sewed of the same fabrics, and my painting of the jacket being worn by two family members at once.

The two quilts are displayed juxtaposed across the surface of my aunt and uncle’s family table. Their chairs, re-upholstered in the same fabrics, are nearby for visitors to sit and talk.

Visitors are welcome to try on the jacket, which adds another way to engage with the piece.

Here, Love – jacket in production

After creating a bolt of quilted fabric by stitching strips together and layering them with batting I laid out the pattern pieces for cutting. The pattern was created by tailor and pattern designer Norris Dante Ford.
With all the pieces quilted and cut out, I began assembly.
